Let’s Start from the Beginning…

I grew up soaking in the sun of San Diego, California, where my love for food wasn’t born in a culinary school, but at my family’s dining table. While other kids were at the beach, I was often found in the kitchen, covered in flour, obsessively trying to perfect a vanilla sponge cake. I didn’t have fancy equipment—just a hand mixer and a stubborn determination to make every birthday cake taste better than the last.

While Hassna Recipe started with my quest for the perfect buttercream, living in California taught me that fresh, flavorful meals are the fuel for a happy life. I realized that as much as I adore baking, I couldn’t survive on sugar alone! That’s why this blog evolved. It’s a reflection of my real life: the show-stopping cakes I bake for celebrations, and the quick, savory dinners I cook to feed my family on busy weeknights.

During my teenage years, I was the quiet perfectionist who loved organizing recipes as much as cooking them. I spent hours analyzing cookbooks to understand the “chemistry” of baking. Later, I fell in love with food photography, learning how to capture the texture of a crumb or the gloss of a sauce. Today, I use those skills to give you step-by-step visuals that make even the most complex cake feel achievable in your own kitchen!

A Budding Interest in Baking…

When I left for college in San Diego, I turned my tiny apartment kitchen into my personal sanctuary. While my roommates were surviving on instant noodles, I was stress-baking vanilla bean cakes and experimenting with homemade pasta sauces! That cramped kitchen is where I realized that my love for food wasn’t limited to sweets—I wanted to master the art of a delicious dinner just as much as the perfect dessert.

I actually majored in Chemistry (which explains my obsession with the science of baking!), but I quickly realized I didn’t want to analyze molecules in a cold lab; I wanted to create flavors in a warm kitchen. So, I took a leap of faith to become a full-time recipe developer and food photographer. I turned my own home into a test kitchen, teaching myself how to perfect everything from delicate cake layers to hearty family meals, and realized that helping you find success in the kitchen is where my heart really belongs.

It’s all about balance! My background in Chemistry draws me to the precision of baking—I love the science behind a perfect crumb. But at the end of the day, I still need to put dinner on the table! Living in San Diego, I’m surrounded by incredible fresh ingredients that inspire me to cook. So, I share my world with you: the scientifically perfected cakes for your celebrations, AND the flavorful, easy meals that fuel my real life.

Do I need professional equipment to make your recipes?

Absolutely not! Remember, I’m self-taught, not a factory. Every recipe on Hassna Recipe is developed in my standard home kitchen right here in California. I don’t own industrial mixers or massive ovens. My goal is to prove that with a simple hand mixer, a digital scale, and the right technique, you can achieve bakery-quality results at home.

I’m a total beginner. Where should I start?

Welcome to the lab (aka the kitchen)! For a confidence boost, start with my “Fail-Proof Vanilla Sponge”. I’ve simplified the chemistry so you get a moist cake without worrying about over-mixing. Do you offer vegan or gluten-free recipes?

My baking expertise is rooted in the traditional chemistry of butter, eggs, and wheat flour because that’s what I know best. I rarely alter that structural formula. However, my savory section is a different story! You’ll find plenty of naturally gluten-free and veggie-packed dinner recipes inspired by the fresh produce here on the West Coast.
