Recreate the iconic Applebee’s Chicken Wonton Tacos at home with this easy and delicious recipe. Featuring crispy baked wonton shells, savory Asian-glazed chicken, and a creamy slaw, these tacos are bursting with flavor and texture.
Ingredients
- 12 wonton wrappers
- 1 tbsp oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cooked and shredded
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp mirin (or 2 tbsp rice vinegar + 2 tsp sugar)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tsp sriracha (optional)
- 4 cups pre-shredded cabbage and carrot mix
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp sliced green onions, for garnish
- 1 tsp sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare Chicken Filling: Cook chicken breast, shred, then mix with soy sauce, hoisin, mirin, garlic, ginger, and sriracha. Set aside.
- Bake Wonton Shells: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin. Press wonton wrappers into cups, brush with oil, and bake for 6-8 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Make Creamy Slaw: Whisk together mayonnaise, rice vinegar, sugar, and sesame oil. Pour over cabbage/carrot mix and toss. Chill for 15-20 minutes.
- Assemble Tacos: Fill each crispy wonton shell with chicken, top with creamy slaw, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
