- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- For the Frosting:
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 3–4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2–4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- Optional: Sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
- Step 1: Prep the Pan. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper leaving an overhang.
- Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugar. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, 2-3 minutes.
- Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
- Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Step 5: Mix Dough. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Step 6: Press into Pan. Press dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Step 7: Bake. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden and the center is set but slightly soft.
- Step 8: Cool Completely. Let bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.
- Step 9: Prepare Frosting. In a medium bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar until smooth. Beat in vanilla extract and milk/cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
- Step 10: Frost and Decorate. Once bars are completely cool, spread frosting evenly over the top. Decorate with sprinkles if desired. Slice and serve.
