Easy Dill Pickle Grilled Cheese Sandwich

  • Total Time: 18 minutes
  • Yield: 1 sandwich

Description

This sandwich elevates a classic comfort food with the tangy crunch of dill pickles. It features perfectly grilled bread, gooey melted cheese, and a delightful briny kick.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices good quality bread (sourdough or artisan white recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise (optional, for extra crispness)
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack or Gruyere cheese
  • 810 thin slices of dill pickles, patted dry

Instructions

  • Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients. If using whole dill pickles, slice them thinly and pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Shred cheeses if not pre-shredded.
  • Assemble Sandwich: Spread butter on one side of each bread slice. If using mayonnaise, spread a thin layer over the buttered side of each slice. Place one slice of bread (unbuttered side up) in a clean area. Layer half of the cheddar cheese, then all of the Monterey Jack, followed by the drained dill pickle slices. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese, then place the second slice of bread on top, buttered/mayo side up.
  • Grill to Perfection: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the sandwich carefully into the preheated pan. Cook for 3-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheeses are fully melted and gooey. Adjust heat as needed to prevent burning.
  • Serve Immediately: Remove the grilled cheese from the pan. For the best experience, slice diagonally and serve hot. Enjoy the delightful contrast of crispy bread, melted cheese, and tangy pickles!
